Frequently Asked Questions
-
You can lodge once your income information is complete and correct. If you're an employee, we recommend checking that your income statement is marked "Tax ready" before lodging. Employers generally have until 14 July to finalise this through Single Touch Payroll, so some income statements won't be ready immediately after 1 July. In some cases we may be able to work from your final payslip, but if the figures don't match what the ATO has on file, it's usually better to wait — this reduces the risk of incorrect income being reported.
-
Yes. To claim any deduction, you need records that support the claim. The ATO generally requires you to keep these records for 5 years from the date you lodge your return.
-
You may be able to claim an expense if you paid for it yourself, weren't reimbursed, and it directly relates to earning your income — and you have records to back it up. This can include work-related travel and working-from-home costs. For working from home, it helps to have details of your hours worked from home, phone and internet use, and any home office expenses. We'll review your circumstances and let you know what's likely claimable.
-
Travel between home and your usual workplace generally isn't claimable. However, travel between different work locations, to client sites, or on work-related trips outside your normal workplace often is. We'll ask a few questions to work out what applies to you.
-
Include it or ask us anyway — we'd rather review it and confirm than have you miss something important. Not everything will end up being deductible, but we can explain what does and doesn't apply to your situation.
-
No. You're welcome to complete our online tax return form and submit your information for review without a scheduled meeting. If you'd prefer to talk things through, Zoom appointments are also available — this can be a good option if your return is more complex or you'd like a more detailed discussion.
-
No. We assist clients locally in Rooty Hill and across Western Sydney, as well as clients Australia-wide through Zoom appointments and online tax return submissions.
-
Not necessarily — your outcome depends on your income, tax withheld, deductions, Medicare levy, private health insurance, any HELP/HECS debt, and other personal circumstances. We'll explain your estimated result before lodgement so there are no surprises.
-
ATO processing times vary and we can't guarantee a timeframe. Delays can happen if the ATO needs to review your return, if information doesn't match their records, or if there are outstanding debts or other issues on file.
-
We review your details, check what's available through the ATO, and contact you if anything's missing. Once your return is prepared, we'll send you the documents to review and sign before we lodge on your behalf.
